Senior Companion Program

Who are senior companion volunteers?

Senior Companions are adults who are:

55 years of age or older.

Able to volunteer 5 days a week for 4 hours each day.

Willing to accept supervision.

In reasonably good health.

Can meet the CNCS and ALTSD income guidelines.

Benefits?

Some of the benefits a Senior Companion receives include:

$3.00 hourly stipend (tax free: will not affect social security eligibility, disability or food stamps eligibility.)

Paid holiday, vacation and sick days.

Free annual physical exam.

Paid training.

Insurance while on duty.

Reimbursement for mileage or bus fare.

Recognition for volunteer services.

Meal reimbursement.

Duties?

Duties of the Senior Companion may include:

Personal Care.

Assistance with Meal Preparation.

Social Interaction.

Recreational Activities.

Home Management.

Information and Advocacy.

Respite Care.

Who Do They Serve?

Senior Companions serve adults who are:

Elderly individuals who are homebound.

​

Caregivers who are serving loved ones 24/7.

​

Physically, Mentally, or Socially in need of Assistance.

​

Possibly at risk of institutionalization.

​

The Senior Companion Program is State and Federally funded, under the auspices of the Corporation for National Service, the Aging Long-Term Services Department and is sponsored locally by Chaves County J.O.Y. Centers Inc.
