Foster Grandparent Program

Who are Foster Grandparents Volunteers?

Foster Grandparents are adults who are:

55 years of age or older.

Able to volunteer 5 days a week for 4 hours each day.

Willing to accept supervision.

In reasonably good health.

Can meet the CNCS and ALTSD income guidelines.

Benefits?

Some of the benefits a Foster Grandparent receives include:

$3.00 hourly stipend (tax free: will not affect social security eligibility, disability or food stamps eligibility.)

Paid holiday, vacation and sick days.

Free annual physical exam.

Paid training.

Insurance while on duty.

Reimbursement for mileage or bus fare.

Recognition for volunteer services.

Meal reimbursement.

Duties?

Listening to...children relating experiences, telling stories.

Talking with... children who need to share their joys, their sadness and their concerns.

Helping...children who need extra practice in basic skills, such as handwriting, number concepts, reading, spelling, and speaking.

Participating with children in education and recreational activities.

Who Do They Serve?

Foster Grandparents serve:

Children with special and exceptional needs.​

​

Foster Grandparents will serve throughout Chaves County.

​

Spending their volunteer hours in the Public Schools,

​

Child Development Centers, Boy's and Girl's Club, and

​

Head Start.

​

​

The Foster Grandparent Program is State and Federally funded, under the auspices of the Corporation for National Service, the Aging Long-Term Services Department and is sponsored locally by Chaves County J.O.Y. Centers Inc.
